“One of the things futurists learn to be comfortable with is a degree of uncertainty. What we are equipped to do is to track signals of change, anticipate the direction of travel, and imagine possible scenarios that could evolve. That way you have some kind of plan in place should any of those possibilities become reality.” -- Elaine Cameron (Futurist and Sr. Director of the FUTURE Perspective Group, Burson-Marsteler)
Can a board game prepare people for the future of work?
JOIN US for our next thought-provoking event, Tech 2025 Game Night with IMPACT, and find out. This will be a fun and enlightening evening of connecting with other people while playing the new, innovative board game IMPACT -- a Foresight Game that teaches you to think critically and imaginatively about emerging technologies and the future of society.
Designed by futurists, IMPACT invites players to take on jobs of the future and navigate change in order to achieve their character’s preferred future state. The game is meant to help players to (1) Learn the basics of futures thinking including some of the key terminology, (2) Learn about the latest advances in science and technology (neurotech, nanotech, artificial intelligence, IoT, biotech, robotics), and (3) Practice thinking about how these emerging technologies could evolve and the various ways they could influence society.
“Our goal with the game is to train people to think more deeply about what could unfold in the future, including opportunities to discuss how emerging technologies will fit into our culture and how we will use them. The fact that players take on roles that may or may not align with their values helps them see things from different perspectives. The skill involved in taking multiple cards and undertaking a brief cross-impact analysis to create a relevant headline is not easy. We’ve found it to be especially challenging for those with engineering and business school backgrounds. Playing IMPACT requires you to think more like a novelist: Who are the characters? What’s it like to live here? What period is this?” -- Robert Bolton (Fast Company)
We'll be breaking up into teams with each team playing and reporting who their winner is and what they learned about the future. Ho will you and your teammates respond to future technological disruption?
Food and beverages included.
Joining us for a live Q&A via livestream will be Jayar La Fontaine, Co-Head Futures and Foresight Strategist at Idea Couture who helped bring IMPACT to life! He'll be discussing what he does as a Foresight Strategist and the how the concept of IMPACT was born and produced (from successful Kickstarter campaign to being acquired by Cognizant).
Jayar is a foresight strategist with Idea Couture, where he helps organizations to develop their capacity for future thinking so that they can respond more flexibly to change and disruption. A thinker most comfortable working in the under-explored spaces between disciplines, he has led multi-stakeholder foresight projects on everything from mental health strategy and wearable technology to the future of work and play.
The roster of clients with whom he has explored the future includes AT&T, LG, Cisco, Samsung, FedEx, Mattel, and BMO.
Prior to working at Idea Couture, he served as Resident Futurist at InteraXon, a Toronto-based startup building brainwave-sensing technology for the consumer market. Jayar has an MA in Philosophy from McMaster University and an MDes in Strategic Foresight and Innovation from OCAD University.
